Funding Opportunities for Research on Climate Services, Flood Forecasting and Weather Radar Applications

Met Éireann is delighted to announce the publication of its Research Call 2024, aimed at national research capacity-building in the areas of weather, climate and flooding services, particularly in support of the TRANSLATE Programme, multi-hazard flood forecasting and weather radar applications.

November 12th 2024

Researchers from Irish Higher Education Institutions are invited to submit applications for funding and, following a competitive process - including international peer review - Met Éireann will select successful proposals to address the Research Call Topics.

Met Éireann's Research Call 2024 is expected to focus on:

1. Supporting the TRANSLATE Programme

• Expanding Underpinning Data.
• Understanding Risk of Climate Extremes.
• Developing Climate Services.

1. Developing multi-hazard flood forecasting applications

1. Developing weather radar (Dual-Pol) applications, focusing on:

• Impact of Wind Turbines
• Hail Monitoring & Alerting

Met Éireann's Research Call 2024 comes under Met Éireann's Weather and Climate Research Programme, which underpins the expertise and knowledge needed to enable the delivery and continuous improvement of national predictive capability in the areas of weather, climate and hydrology and to ensure that, particularly in the climate context, research outputs provide the evidence and tools necessary to inform government policy and action.

Key dates:

Call deadline: Friday 10^th January 2025 at 17:00.

Results expected: Q1 2025.
