On August 28, 2024, at approximately 10:26 p.m., troopers from SP Rochester responded to a serious physical injury motorcycle accident on I-490 near the Frederick Douglass- Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge in the city of Rochester.

An investigation revealed a 2024 Chappy Yamaha, operated by Joseph W. Gividen, age 22, of Fairport, NY, was traveling westbound on I-490 when it exited the roadway, striking the guide rail. Gividen was ejected from the motorcycle. Life-saving measures were taken at the scene. Gividen was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
