SGMC Health Welcomes a General and Bariatric Surgeon

SGMC Health is proud to welcome Devan Lenhart, DO, as a specialist in General Surgery and Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Lenhart brings a wealth of expertise in minimally invasive and robotic surgery techniques, along with a patient-centered approach to treating a wide range of conditions.

As a general surgeon, Dr. Lenhart performs a variety of surgeries, including hernia repair, breast, colon, gallbladder, and emergency surgical care.

In addition, he specializes in minimally invasive metabolic and bariatric surgery using advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques to treat the chronic disease of obesity. He performs operations including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, among others.

His passion for the metabolic and bariatric field stems from a desire to treat the chronic disease of obesity, which can prevent or improve conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, and sleep apnea. His work has the potential to significantly improve patients' quality of life and help them achieve better long-term health.

Known for his compassionate and communicative approach to care, Dr. Lenhart emphasizes the importance of connecting with patients. "I prioritize listening to my patients and clearly explaining their conditions and treatment options. Together, we work as a team to make the best decisions for their health," said Dr. Lenhart. "My patients can expect excellent communication, an evidence-based approach, and comprehensive support throughout their surgical journey."

Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Lenhart earned his medical degree at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields and a fellowship in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center/Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans.

Outside of his work, Dr. Lenhart enjoys exercise and travel. He is happily married and excited to settle into the Valdosta community.

Dr. Lenhart's office is located within the SGMC Surgery Suite inside the Professional Building at 2409 North Patterson Street in Valdosta.
