Shot Spotter Activation Leads to the Arrest of Three Suspects and Recovery of Two Firearms in Roxbury

Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Romel Sandy, 32, of the South End, Michael Wornum, 30, of Dorchester, and Derrick Brown, 34, of Dorchester on multiple firearm related offenses following a Shot Spotter Activation at 51 Marcella St, Roxbury.

Officers were on a directed patrol near Marcella St. and Centre St. due to a Shot Spotter Activation for ten (10) gunshots near 51 Marcella St, where ballistic evidence was recovered. After receiving information from 911 calls, Radio Operations provided Officers with a description of three suspects involved and the vehicle they were operating.

During their patrol of the surrounding area, Officers located three individuals and a vehicle matching the description provided by radio operations in a parking lot located at the intersection of Columbus Ave. and New Heath St. As Officers approached, they observed the three begin to walk away from their vehicle after one of them reached inside and quickly locked it. Officers parked their vehicle near the suspects vehicle and began to approach them on foot.

Officers stopped the three individuals and began an investigation. During their investigation, Officers identified the three individuals as Romel Sandy, Michael Wornum and Derrick Brown and recovered a firearm from a backpack Wornum was wearing and another firearm, which was at lock back, from a backpack Sandy was wearing. Additionally, Officers recovered ballistic evidence inside the vehicle that was registered to Brown.

B-2 Detectives responded and determined the first firearm to be a Jiminez Arms Model JA Nine 9mm. with 9 rounds located in the magazine. The second firearm was determined to be a Smith & Wesson M&P Body Guard .380. with no rounds in the chamber or magazine.

Romel Sandy was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, and Firearm Violation with Two Prior Violent and/or Drug Crimes.

Michael Wornum was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Firearm Violation with Two Prior Violent and/or Drug Crimes, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest.

Derrick Brown was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court for the charges of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
