This Fourth of July, leave fireworks to the pros

Published on June 29, 2024

The Fourth of July is this Thursday, and the City of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Fire and Fort Worth Police departments want to ensure the safety of residents by reminding everyone that fireworks are illegal in Fort Worth.

What is the law?

  • Fireworks are illegal in Fort Worth, but fireworks shows are permitted by the City.
  • The Fort Worth City Ordinance states: "The possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks are prohibited." Illegal fireworks are punishable by law and there is up to a $2,000 fine."

Enforcement strategies and response vary and depend on several factors:

  • The number of calls received through Communications and 911 systems
  • The number of officers available to respond to calls
  • The use of surveillance cameras
  • Intelligence, including monitoring social media

The Police Department will have additional resources working overtime in every patrol division during illegal fireworks activities. All calls through FWPD will be prioritized for a police response. This will ensure FWPD has adequate resources available to respond to emergencies and high-priority calls for service.
