Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus Announces Plans on Cornwall Bridge Projects

Goshen, N.Y. - Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus is pleased to announce significant advancements of the Cornwall Bridge Projects, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and ensuring safe and efficient transportation in the town.

Neuhaus expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts involved in this vital infrastructure project. "The progress on the Cornwall Bridge Projects demonstrates our dedication to efficiently maintaining the County's roads and bridges for residents and visitors alike," he stated. "We remain committed to advancing infrastructure initiatives that promote economic growth and enhance the quality of life in Orange County."

Main Street Bridge No. 2 (pictured): Located adjacent to the Chadeayne Circle carries County Route 9 (Main Street) over the Idlewild Creek. The existing bridge was constructed in 1929 and has reached the end of its serviceable life. The project includes a complete replacement of the bridge and was designed to include pedestrian accommodation and safety improvements. Due to the proximity of residential and commercial buildings, the project will be constructed in stages to allow two-way traffic through the site over the next 18 months. The County's contractor has mobilized the site and is working on demolition operations.

Main Street Bridge No. 1: Located north of Curie Road, carries County Route 9 (Main Street) over Idlewild Creek. Final design is underway and construction for this bridge is scheduled for the 2025 construction season.

Hasbrouck Avenue Bridge: The Hasbrouck Avenue Bridge project is currently in the preliminary design phase. Coordination efforts with the Town Engineer, Water Superintendent, and other utility owners are underway. Tentatively scheduled for the 2026 construction season, this project underscores Orange County's commitment to proactive infrastructure development and planning with local stakeholders.

"These bridge projects have been designed to improve the walkability of the downtown Cornwall area and to enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians," said Erik Denega, Commissioner of Public Works. "The Main Street Bridge No. 2 project currently under construction is not just a bridge project. Courtesy of community feedback, it will bring aesthetic improvements including ornate parapet walls and ornamental light posts. Our team has taken a holistic approach, tying the needs of the businesses and residents into the overall design."
