Sewage Advisory: Crews respond to sewage release from pump station at NE Broadway and Weidler intersection

City crews on Tuesday nightresponded to, and stopped, a sewage release from a pump station in a residential neighborhood of NE Portland.

The sewage overflowed to the street at the intersection of NE Broadway and Weidler near 86th Avenue, with some amount reaching the basements of three homes at that intersection.

Crews stopped the release about 11 p.m., within half an hour of reaching the site. They then cleaned the street and worked with affected residents on clean upplans.

The public is advised to obey warning signs posted in the area.

Crews identified the cause as a failed sensor which prevented the pumps from operating. They repaired the pump station and restored service. Environmental Services maintains 99 pump stations around the city that send sewage through pipes to the city's wastewater treatment plants.
