In July actual unemployment rate was 6.8 % and registered 5.2 %20.08.2024

Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) estimate shows that in July 2024 actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.8 % and it has not changed over the month. Over the year actual unemployment rate has increased by 0.3 percentage points.

Unemployment rate for both men women did not change and stayed at 8.2 % and 5.4 %, respectively.

Based on the methodology used, the data have been revised.

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.2 %. It has increased by 0.1 percentage points over the month and reduced by 0.4 percentage points over the year.

In July 2024 there were 64.8 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (25.5 thousand women and 39.2 thousand men), which is 0.1 thousand more than a month ago and 3.0 thousand more than a year ago. Over the month, the number of unemployed men reduced by 0.1 thousand and of unemployed women increased by 0.2 thousand.

SEA calculates registered unemployment rate using the data on the registered unemployed persons available to the agency and the data provided by the CSB on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. Actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labour Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons.
