Season seven of Scripps News' award-winning documentary series to include Soledad O'Brien, other award-winning journalists

ATLANTA -Season seven of Scripps News' Emmy-winning "In Real Life" documentary series kicks off with award-winning correspondent Soledad O'Brien showing the battle to win political influence over Latino voters through radio. The ten-episode season, which premieres Oct. 6, airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Scripps News.

In addition to the premiere episode, this season, "In Real Life" dives into the big business of modern astrology, hears from the independent voters shaping America's future, and shows how conservationists are trying to bridge border walls cutting across fragile eco-systems.

"We're proud to see 'In Real Life' become a home for more of the industry's top storytellers, both in front of and behind the camera," said executive producer Zach Toombs. "In the impact of our work and the ambition of our journalism, this is by far the biggest year yet for "In Real Life."

Coming up during the fall season of "In Real Life":

  • Oct. 6: "War on La Radio" - Correspondent Soledad O'Brien shows the battle to reach Latino voters over radio, as both progressives and conservatives vie for political influence on the airwaves.
  • Oct. 13: "Arming the Pacific" - As the U.S. bolsters its position against China, some communities across island territories and allies are pushing back on an American military buildup. Peabody-winning correspondent Dan Ming brings viewers to U.S. military installations across the Pacific.
  • Oct. 17: "Independent America" - Emmy-winning correspondent Gianna Toboni hosts a roundtable of independent voters in this one-hour episode. In conversation and with time spent in the panelists' daily lives, this special presentation in the runup to November elections reveals the core issues influencing the voters that will decide the country's future. This one-hour special will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. ET.
  • Oct. 27: "Nature Divided" - With border walls going up across the world, what is the impact on the wildlife facing new barriers? From eastern Europe to the U.S.-Mexico border, award-winning journalist Sam Eaton shows how conservationists are trying to bridge a divide across fragile eco-systems.
  • Nov. 3: "Public Defender" - What happens when a liberal public defender represents right-wing January 6th rioters? "In Real Life" brings viewers the television premiere of the award-winning documentary "Public Defender," a film takes on America's epidemic of division and misinformation with humanity and comic relief, modeling how to restore trust and accountability one conversation at a time.
  • Nov. 10: "Solving The Flood" - A new generation of American infrastructure aims to fight flooding and climate threats in innovative ways. "In Real Life" revisits The Big U in New York to see how this and other ambitious projects have been able to stem the tide against rising sea levels and severe storms.
  • Nov. 10: "The Age of Astrology" - How did astrology become a multi-billion-dollar business? Award-winning journalist Gelareh Darabi shows viewers the new technology and ancient practices driving a golden age for astrology, from a packed convention in Los Angeles to an ashram in southern India.

Previous seasons of the "In Real Life" series have been honored with an Edward R. Murrow Award, a national News Emmy Award, a Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Mediaas well as an award for outstanding TV journalismfrom the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
