On July 2, 2024, State Police of Latham arrested Shakeer A. Mitchell, 27, of Watervliet, NY, for Reckless Endangerment in the first degree, Stalking in the second degree, Menacing in the second degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Keith Childs, 31, of Albany, NY, was also arrested for Tampering with Physical Evidence, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second degree.

On July 1, 2024, at about 6:37 p.m., Troopers responded to a report of an individual menacing another with a handgun on I-90 in Albany, NY. The investigation determined Mitchell allegedly followed a vehicle containing two adults and a child under the age of six onto I-90 in Albany, NY. While following them in another vehicle, Mitchell reportedly displayed and pointed a handgun at the victims and their vehicle. This occurred following a confrontation earlier in the day, which also happened in Albany, NY, where Mitchell allegedly threatened to shoot at one of the victims. A search of the area failed to locate Mitchell or his vehicle.

Mitchell was later located at his Watervliet, NY, home and arrested. Childs was also at the location at the time of the arrest and took actions to interfere and conceal evidence, at which point he was also arrested. Both were transported to SP Latham for processing. Childs was arraigned at the Watervliet City Court and released under the supervision of the Albany County Probation Department. Mitchell was arraigned at the Albany City Court and also released under the supervision of Albany County Probation Department.
