Board members also have the opportunity to participate in the City's decision-making process for a variety of topics. The City has some 80 boards and commissions with over 500 members.

Below is a listing of current vacancies:

Veterans Advisory Committee (Application Deadline 9-30-24)
The Advisory Committee will support the Department of Veterans Service in fulfilling part of its purpose to: Assist in providing information to persons who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces of the United States, and their families concerning their rights and privileges under federal, state, and local laws; Assist veterans in preparing for new entrepreneurial, employment, training and retraining opportunities for further education or employment; Encourage and support outreach and participation to veterans from underserved populations to include the Center for Minority Veteran, Women Veterans Network, etc. Liaise on behalf of the Department of Veterans Services with local businesses and organizations; Keep informed as to the programs or facilities of any organizations, whether public or private, of service to or of interest to veterans and their families.

Safety Improvement Project on Cambridge Street Working Group (Application Deadline 9-9-24)
This project will: Add separated bike lanes on Cambridge Street between Inman Square and Second Street, meeting the requirements of the City of Cambridge's Cycling Safety Ordinance to build a network of separated bike lanes throughout the City; Make changes to the street to improve safety for all users, including for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving; Construct new bus stops, with boarding platforms that extend further into the street, reducing bus delay and improving the experience of using and waiting for the bus.

Cambridge Redevelopment Authority (Application Deadline 9-9-24)
The Cambridge Redevelopment Authority (CRA) works in the public trust to bring a human dimension to development, improving the quality of life for residents, businesses, employees, and visitors. Its goal is to balance economic vibrancy, housing, and open space, to create sustainable communities through new and revitalized development. Committed to implementing imaginative, creative initiatives to achieve social equity and a balanced economic ecosystem, the CRA works on projects throughout Cambridge, often in partnership with the City of Cambridge or with other organizations.

Central Square Advisory Committee (Application Deadline 8-12-24)
The Central Square Advisory Committee (CSAC) is a group of community members with direct relationships to Central Square in Cambridge who review development proposals and planning projects that impact Central Square.

Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship (Application Deadline 9-9-24)
The Commission on Immigrant Rights & Citizenship (CIRC) works to welcome, inform, connect, and support Cambridge's immigrant community. CIRC staff provides information, referrals, and guidance to residents seeking assistance. The Commission collaborates with other city departments, community partners, and individuals that support immigrant rights and citizenship.

Harvard Square Advisory Committee (Application Deadline 8-12-24)
The Harvard Square Advisory Committee (HSAC) is a group of community members with direct relationships to Harvard Square, who review development proposals and planning projects that impact Harvard Square.

Foundry Advisory Committee (Application Deadline 9-9-24)
This Committee helps ensure that the Foundry building's redevelopment and ongoing operation remains consistent with the Vision and Objectives established in the Demonstration Plan that grew out of an extensive community planning process. The Foundry's nonprofit operator, the Foundry Consortium, manages the building and stewards community activities in the various community spaces including the performance space, maker workshops, dance studio, art classrooms, and multi-purpose rooms.

Applications to serve on any of these boards and working groups can be submitted to City Manager Yi-An Huang using the City's online application system at www.cambridgema.gov/apply and selecting the respective board/working group of interest. A cover letter and resume or applicable experience can be submitted during the online application process.
