José Manuel Albares visits Gambia and Senegal

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has travelled to the West African countries of Gambia and Senegal with an agenda focused on strengthening political dialogue, development cooperation and circular migration.

During his stay in the Gambian capital Banjul, Minister Albares was received by President Adama Barrow, and met with his counterpart, Momodou Tangara. During their talks, they reviewed economic and business relations and cooperation on migration, especially circular migration, which benefits both Gambia and Spain.

The second stop on the trip saw Albares visit Senegal, a key country for Spain and strategic partner for the stability of the entire region, with an important role in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
During his visit, Minister Albares was received by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and held meetings with the Minister for Interior, Jean Baptiste Tine, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall.

At these meetings, cooperation on circular migration, development cooperation and business and economic relations, including the blue economy, were discussed. Minister Albares pledged to strengthen Spain's cooperation on youth and employment.
In Dakar, Minister Albares met with members of the Guardia Civil and National Police forces that work with the Senegalese authorities in the fight against human trafficking networks.
