Employee Spotlight: Christopher Huff

RICHMOND, Va. -

Name: Christopher Huff

Organization: DLA Aviation at Ogden

Years of service at DLA: 14 years

What is your job title, and what do you do specifically? I am a management analyst, and I am the facility manager responsible for 12 DLA Aviation buildings at Hill Air Force Base, Ogden, Utah. I maintain these facilities by submitting work orders, purchase requests and service requests to DLA Aviation in Richmond for equipment, materials and services for everything from cleaning to repair to modification contracts.

Lately, we have been contracting the updating and replacing of the office cubicles in different facilities, office renovations and running new HDMI cables through walls for mounting monitors to walls in different offices.

How do you support the warfighter? It is my job to keep our supply support centers operational and the equipment fully functional. By ensuring DLA employees have the facilities to perform their mission, I've done my part in making sure we deliver the aircraft parts and supplies on time to the warfighters.

What do you like most about your job and why? When improving and maintaining the facilities, I know our employees have a great, productive and safe work site.

What aspect of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction? I always enjoy seeing a completed renovation of a workspace or a new piece of equipment installed. It's good to see how pleased the employees are when they enter a freshly renovated office or workspace.

What are some of your passions outside of work? I really enjoy spending some of my free time off-roading in our Polaris RZR side-by-side -off-road vehicles and going to the mountains with my wife for extreme rock crawling in the Jeep.

My wife is the main driver of the Jeep and does the scary stuff, while I take photos of her getting crazy and do the maintenance on it. We just completed the Rubicon Trail in California recently, and she drove the entire trail. I was just along for the ride.

What's the most thrilling/adventurous thing you have ever done? I went scuba diving during the night at Wake Island in the central Pacific Ocean. I was in the Air Force then and went TDY there for six months to make repairs and clean up after Typhoon Ioke hit the island in 2006.

Being underwater at night is amazing and peaceful. You can only see what's illuminated with your flashlight; otherwise, it's pitch black. The sharks are small and don't bite -- often.

What is your favorite military aircraft? The Air Force's A-10 Thunderbolt, of course. Why? Because someone had the idea of building a 30mm Gatlin gun and then said, "Hey, let's build a plane around it!"
