Emergency services were called at around 10:30 p.m., arrived on the scene and administered medical assistance. At this time, law enforcement is examining the case. They have indicated that there are no indications of foul play, and that there is no danger to the broader community. The student's family has been notified and will be receiving support from the university and emergency personnel.

WWU President Sabah Randhawa expressed, "I am heartbroken to learn that we have lost one of our students. On behalf of the WWU community, our hearts go out to the students' family, friends, and classmates. We understand that this news is hard to take in, and we encourage anyone who needs support to use the resources available through the university."
