BOZEMAN - The Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University will host Mariah Gladstone, an Indigenous foods expert and founder of Indigikitchen, for a series of events starting Aug. 8.
Gladstone is a member of the Blackfeet and Cherokee tribes. The events focuses on the history, health benefits and flavors of Indigenous cuisine.
Gladstone will deliver a Native food history lecture on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. in the museum's Hager Auditorium. The talk will explore the traditional foods of Native peoples, the impact of their loss and how reconnecting with these foods can enhance health and well-being. Admission for the event is $8 per person.
Additionally, Gladstone will then teach two hands-on cooking classes at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, and Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Tinsley House next door to the museum entrance. The classes will instruct participants on harvesting and preparing a meal made with authentic Indigenous recipes. The classes are $75 per person and offer an opportunity to learn about the culinary traditions of Native communities.
