TAUP ratifies new five-year contract

Dear colleagues,

Earlier this week, the Temple Association of University Professionals (TAUP) successfully voted to ratify the five-year contract that it tentatively agreed to last month. The contract was approved by Temple University's Board of Trustees at the board's October meeting, subject to the TAUP ratification vote.

Temple and TAUP have been bargaining since August 2023, and TAUP's previous agreement expired Oct. 15, 2023. This new agreement represents a significant accomplishment for both the university as well as the collective bargaining unit.

Some of the highlights of the contract include significant wage increases, heightened job security for non-tenure-track faculty members and adjuncts, as well as expanded benefits. It directly reflects what can happen when two parties work together to negotiate in good faith and reach a mutually beneficial agreement.

The five-year agreement goes into effect immediately, and it will expire May 31, 2028. I invite you to learn more about the new agreement in this Temple Now piece.

In the meantime, I would like to thank the entire Temple University community for its patience over the last year. Contract negotiations are a marathon, not a sprint, and I appreciate everyone's support as we have worked through this process.

I also want to thank TAUP and its bargaining team for their work in helping to bring the negotiation process to completion. Fourteen months ago, we came to the table with a desire to reach an agreement that would provide fair conditions and compensation for faculty, librarians and academic professionals, while also honoring a commitment to keep a Temple education affordable for students. We believe this new contract achieves all of those goals.

Sincerely,

Sharon Boyle
Vice President for Human Resources
