Lt. Governor Burt Jones Update on Hurricane Helene Response

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, October 1, 2024

ATLANTA |Yesterday, Lt. Governor Burt Jones joined John Bachman on the The Record with Greta VanSusteren on Newsmax to discuss recovery efforts in Georgia in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Today, Lt. Governor Burt Jones issued a statement in response to the Biden/Harris Administration decision on Governor Brian Kemp's request for federal assistance.

"The damage we have seen across Georgia and in the Southeast is unprecedented," said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. "Today, we were notified that the Biden/Harris Administration has only approved an emergency declaration for 11 out of 90 counties requested in Governor Kemp's emergency declaration. This news is disheartening and I urge the current Administration to expand the declaration immediately so that all impacted areas can receive the resources and help they desperately need. I will continue to work with Governor Kemp, state agencies and local communities to help our neighbors across Georgia, as they work to help one another and rebuild. This is the Georgia way and that's exactly how we will come out stronger than before."
