Sanders Announces Pocahontas as Arkansas’ Capital for a Day on November 13th

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME - GREETINGS:

WHEREAS: Pocahontas' history traces back to the earliest days of Arkansas' settlement, when early residents built homes overlooking the Black River and established trade along Arkansas' waterways;

WHEREAS: The city was chosen as Randolph County's seat and grew from there, becoming a key transit point during the Civil War and booming during the steamboat era, when hotels sprung up around the river port;

WHEREAS: Though the steam era is long over, Pocahontas remains closely connected to the river. A statue of the Native American princess Pocahontas looks out from the city's Overlook Park over the Black River;

WHEREAS: Today, Pocahontas is known for its historic downtown district and has a robust arts scene offering drama, ballet, and voice lessons at The Imperial Dinner Theatre;

WHEREAS: Governor Sanders' "Capital for a Day" program highlights great cities around Arkansas like Pocahontas and brings senior state government officials into town to meet with their local counterparts; and

WHEREAS: Pocahontas will serve as the thirteenth "Capital for a Day" under Governor Sanders and will momentarily serve as Arkansas' seat of government.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby name Pocahontas, Arkansas, our Capital for a Day on November 13th, 2024, and invite our senior state government officials to join me in a visit to the city.
