Mexico attends inauguration of President Mulino in Panama
  • President López Obrador's wife, Beatriz Gutiérrez, accompanied the Mexican delegation at the inauguration of President José Raúl Mulino Quintero in Panama.

The wife of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Beatriz Gutiérrez Mueller, accompanied the Mexican delegation that attended yesterday's inauguration of José Raúl Mulino Quintero as the President of the Republic of Panama for the 2024-2029 term.

On behalf of President López Obrador, Beatriz Gutiérrez congratulated President José Raúl Mulino on his electoral victory and wished him success in his administration. She also reiterated the Mexican government's readiness to continue strengthening its ties of friendship and cooperation with Panama, and she highlighted the excellent cooperation between the two nations.

She and the Mexican delegation met with Colombian President Gustavo Petro Urrego, with whom they discussed the search for and identification of the remains of General José María Melo y Ortiz, located in the community of Juncaná, Chiapas, and those of Catarino Erasmo Garza and his companions, in Bocas del Toro, Panama, where he died on March 8, 1895. They also held a brief meeting with Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves Robles.

The Mexican delegation was composed of members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas; Mexico's Ambassador to Panama Alejandro Bichir Batres; Director General for Central America and the Caribbean Carlos Imanol Belausteguigoitia Reyes; and Director of Strategy and Communication for Latin America and the Caribbean Diana Bárbara Santos González.

This year, Mexico and Panama commemorate 120 years of diplomatic relations, an anniversary that confirms the fraternal, historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
