Rep. Panetta Announces New Federal Support for Teacher Training Programs

Monterey, CA - United States Representative Jimmy Panetta (CA-19)announced a nearly $1 million federal investment to support teacher training and professional development in California's 19th Congressional District. The $969,626 grant was awarded to the College of Education at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), a leading institution for training future educators on the Central Coast. The funding will enhance programs critical to developing a strong pipeline of skilled teachers throughout the district.

"Teachers are at the core of our education system," said Rep. Panetta. "The impressive and impactful training of our next generation of educators at the College of Education at CSUMB not only strengthens our schools, but it also will uplift our students. I am proud to announce this significant federal investment in that program to improve and further its training and resources and help fulfill the goals or our future teachers."

"There are many ways in which CSUMB is making a difference in Monterey County and beyond," said CSUMB President Vanya QuiƱones. "But few are more important than improving the level of education in our schools. By providing well-trained teachers for local classrooms, we are helping to build a stronger generation that will benefit from opportunities for upward mobility. In the long run, it's programs such as this that will enhance the quality of life for everyone and I am proud of these professors for adding to the strength of us."

The Teacher Quality Partnership program through the U.S. Department of Education empowers prospective teachers and enhances professional development activities for educators to improve overall student achievement. CSUMB's Teaching Credential Candidates have a 98.9% job placement rate, the highest in the CSU system.
