Thanks to SPLOST Newton County replaces 28 vehicles

The Newton County Board of Commissioners approved to surplus 28 vehicles and five tractors during its Regular Meeting on Nov. 5.

A majority of the vehicles, no longer used by the County will be placed on GovDeals for auction.

Among the vehicles approved for surplus were two trailers in need of paint, flooring, tires, wheels and brakes. The 28 other vehicles all needed repairs, including some that were not operable. The years of the vehicle date as far back as 1991 and all but one was older than 15 years and only five had less than 150,000 miles.

The vehicles were replaced recently by the General Fleet Replacement Program and Public Safety Fleet Replacement Program funded by the 2023 SPLOST.

As part of the 2023 Referendum, Newton County voters recognized the need to improve vehicles and other equipment with models that did not require high maintenance cost due to age or fuel inefficiencies from older models.

Thanks to the support of this initiative, Newton County was able to improve public safety, purchase vital pieces of equipment and new vehicles, improve reserve vehicle resources and establish a consistent vehicle replacement program.
