City Snowplow Naming Contest Begins November 12

Published on November 12, 2024

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) today invites community members to participate in the Name That Snowplow contest at lincoln.ne.gov/NameThatSnowplow. Community members may submit snowplow names through late November, and vote for favorites through early January 2025. The winning names will appear on eight City snowplows.

"Winter in Lincoln is an opportunity for our community to come together and embrace the season," said LTU Director Liz Elliott. "These snowplows are symbols of our dedication to keeping Lincoln safe on city streets. To get into the spirit of winter, we invite residents to join in the fun once again by naming more snowplows."

This is the second year of a three-year run for the Name That Snowplow contest. In 2023, the community submitted more than 1,739 names. LTU snowfighters reviewed the name submissions and selected the final 25 names for consideration. The community then voted on their top eight names.

Names selected in 2023 were:

  • Clearopathra
  • Scoop Dogg
  • PlowyMcPlowface
  • Darth Blader
  • Austin Plowers
  • Truck Norris
  • AntiSnowcial
  • Snow Big Red

The contest timeline for 2024 is as follows:

  • November 12 through November 26 - The community is invited to submit snowplow names at lincoln.ne.gov/NameThatSnowplow.
  • Week of December 16 - LTU will select the top 25 snowplow names from which the community may vote.
  • December 23 through January 3, 2025 - Community members may vote for their favorite snowplow names at lincoln.ne.gov/NameThatSnowplow.
  • Week of January 13, 2025 - LTU will announce the winners. The winning names will be displayed on City snowplows. Winners will also receive free prizes from LTU.
