On November 16, 2024, at approximately 4:26 p.m., State Police members responded to Stowersville Road in the town of Essex for a car vs. Amish buggy collision. An investigation determined a gray 2013 Subaru Impreza, operated by Larry Crowningshield, age 59, of Keeseville, NY, was traveling west, approaching a hill crest, on Stowersville Road, when he struck the back left wheel of the Amish buggy, causing all three occupants in the buggy to be ejected.
The driver of the buggy, a 16-year-old male, was accompanied by his two brothers, who are, 15-years-old and 12-years-old, of Essex, NY. The 16-year-old and 12-year-old males were evaluated by EMS on scene and did not sustain injuries. The 15-year-old male was transported to Champlain Valley Physician Hospital for a serious head injury. He was later transported to University Medical Center in Vermont sustaining, life-threatening injuries, where he is listed in critical condition.
State Police members were assisted by Essex County Sheriff's Department and local fire and rescue departments.
