8:00 a.m. - Durango Cowboy Gathering and Horseback Social
The Board will attend the Durango Cowboy Gathering and Horseback Social, held on Main Avenue between College Drive to 12th Street in Durango.

MONDAY, October 7
9:30 a.m. - Tri-County Joint Budget Meeting

The Board will meet with representatives from Archuleta, San Juan and La Plata Counties to discuss the District Attorney's Office budget for 2025.

2:00 p.m. - City Council/County Commissioners Joint Sales Tax Budget Meeting
The Board will meet with members of the Durango City Council and staff to discuss the 2025 joint sales tax budget. The meeting will take place at Durango City Hall, 949 East 2nd Avenue. Visit the City of Durango's website for a link to the online meeting.

3:30 p.m. - Highway 160 Road Tour with Senator Bennet
The Board is meeting with Senator Bennet for a road tour of the proposed Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) improvement projects on Highway 160.

TUESDAY, October 8
8:30 a.m. - Executive Session

Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute § 24-6-402 (4), upon the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the quorum present, the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will hold an executive session to discuss the following matters:

  1. For purposes of the Board receiving legal advice on specific legal questions pursuant to Colo. Rev. Stat. § 24-6-402(4)(b).
    Purpose: Potential intergovernmental agreement regarding housing inmates for the City of Durango and potential agreement with the US Marshal Service for the housing of inmates and contractual requirements related thereto and investigatory processes related to the La Plata County Detention Center.
  2. Determining positions relative to matters that may be subject to negotiations; developing strategy for negotiations; and instructing negotiators pursuant to Colo. Rev. Stat. § 24-6-402(4)(e).
    Purpose: Potential intergovernmental agreement regarding housing inmates for the City of Durango and potential agreement with the US Marshal Service for the housing of inmates and contractual requirements related thereto.
  3. Personnel matters pursuant to Colo. Rev. Stat. § 24-6-402(4)(f). Purpose: Investigatory processes related to the La Plata County Detention Center.

10:00 a.m. - Business Agenda Meeting
The Board will consider:

  1. Approval of county cash requirements as prepared and posted by the Finance Department and direct staff to publish.
  2. Approval of a grant application to the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) for the 2024/2025 Gray and Black Marijuana Enforcement Grant.
  3. Approval of the renewal and modification of a tavern liquor license for The Nugget Mountain Bar.
  4. Approval of the ambulance service authorization to operate for Upper Pine River Fire Protection District.
  5. Approval of the renewal and modification of a resort complex liquor license for Purgatory Resort.
  6. Approval of Weather Radar Application Privacy Policy.
  7. Consideration of Community Solar Subscription Agreement - La Plata Electric Association Sunnyside Community Solar.
  8. Consideration of Collective Bargaining Agreement with Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #8.

The Board has been invited to attend a Green Business Roundtable meeting at the Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino Del Rio, Durango.

1:00 p.m. - Town Hall with State Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway
The Colorado Division of Insurance will host a stakeholder meeting to hear input from consumers regarding the accessibility and affordability of homeowners insurance. The meeting will be held at the Durango Recreation Center at 2700 Main Ave.

THURSDAY, October 10
4:00 p.m. - Commissioner Salka Bayfield Community Office Hours
Commissioner Matt Salka will hold in-person office hours in Bayfield from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for members of the public to discuss county issues of interest or concern. Commissioner Salka's office hours will be held at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.
