CAP Construction to Restrict I-95 North at Night Next Week in Center City Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that roadway construction will occur at night next week on northbound Interstate 95 under the $329 million CAP project to replace and expand the covered area over the interstate in Center City Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

• Thursday, October 10, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 between the I-676 (Exit 22) and Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20) interchanges.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PennDOT's is replacing and extending the covered area over I-95 and Columbus Boulevard between Chestnut and Walnut streets. This project will improve pedestrian and multimodal connections between Center City and the waterfront. The new project has two main components: a new Park at Penn's Landing, and a new signature bridge at South Street, both of which will also extend over Columbus Boulevard to connect cyclists and pedestrians to the newly completed Delaware River Trail.
