Adam Pasick Joins International

Our correspondents around the world have always done much more than report the news - they also explain it. With misinformation in the air and the media in constant upheaval, that aspect of our mission is perhaps more important, and daunting, than ever. And we have tackled it like no one else, by bringing to bear expertise that comes only from on-the-ground reporting and speaking directly to readers across formats, in text and graphics, audio and video.

There's more we can do to elevate this work and make it a priority. As a next step, I'm thrilled to announce that Adam Pasick is joining the desk as a new deputy International editor in New York, with responsibility for reimagining and strengthening our approach to explanatory journalism, especially for new audiences.

He's been doing that for the whole newsroom since 2019, as The New York Times's editorial director of newsletters. During his impressive tenure, he oversaw a dramatic expansion of the Times newsletter portfolio, including The Morning, which now reaches more than 15 million inboxes every day. Again and again, he launched newsletters to serve readers in the biggest news moments, including the Trump impeachments, the Covid pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. And through it all, he helped The Times hone an approach to storytelling and news writing that has become a model for the rest of the newsroom.

"Adam has helped turn the email inbox into a journalistic playground, where he experimented in format and tone, and pioneered a clear, conversational voice for The Times," said Sam Dolnick, deputy managing editor. "He's a born collaborator who loves to get his hands dirty, and makes every project he works on sharper and more fun."

That record of collaboration is part of what makes Adam a natural fit for the International desk, where he'll work closely with Josh Keller to explore new story forms and Bo Kim to reach new audiences. He'll pull together a team of specialists in explanatory journalism and also make it a bigger part of the work of every correspondent and editor in New York, London and Seoul and our bureaus around the world.

Adam brings both international and digital experience from a distinguished career before The Times to this new challenge. He worked at Quartz, leading a team in Asia and then focusing on its newsletters and award-winning app; at New York magazine, where he was the managing editor for nymag.com; and at Reuters, where he held several positions in New York and London.

Please welcome him to International.
