BREAKING: The Trump-Vance Ticket Would “Absolutely” End Medication Abortion Access Arrow

In response to Donald Trump saying he would "absolutely" direct the FDA to revoke abortion medication access, DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

"Donald Trump said it loud and clear: If they win, Trump and JD Vance will 'absolutely' enact their Project 2025 agenda to end access to medication abortion and achieve their goal of banning abortion nationwide - all without Congress. The Trump-Vance ticket's Project 2025 MAGA blueprint is an all-out assault on our basic freedoms. If they get their way, millions of women could be denied reproductive care and forced to live under the cruel abortion bans that Trump made possible when he ended Roe v. Wade. It's a dangerous and a losing agenda, and the American people will stop it from ever becoming a reality, no matter how much Trump and Vance try to gaslight us about their anti-choice extremism."

BREAKING: Donald Trump said he would "absolutely" direct the FDA to end medication abortion access if elected.

Interviewer: "Would you direct your FDA, for example, to revoke access to mifepristone?" […]

Donald Trump: "You could do things that would be- will supplement, absolutely. Those things are pretty open."

The Trump-Vance ticket's Project 2025 agenda includes a national abortion ban and threats to medication abortion access.

Rolling Stone: "Trump Wants to Ban Abortion Nationwide: Report"

Trump: "There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it's very important."

CNN: "JD Vance said in 2022 he 'would like abortion to be illegal nationally'"

"During a podcast interview in January 2022, then-candidate JD Vance said he 'certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally' and was 'sympathetic' to the view that a national ban was necessary to stop women from traveling across states to obtain an abortion."

Daily Beast: "J.D. Vance suggested he would support prohibiting abortion even in cases of rape and incest-and dismissed those catalysts as 'inconvenient.'"

Project 2025: "FDA should … Reverse its approval of chemical abortion drugs because the politicized approval process was illegal from the start … Now that the Supreme Court has acknowledged that the Constitution contains no right to an abortion, the FDA is ethically and legally obliged to revisit and withdraw its initial approval, which was premised on pregnancy being an 'illness' and abortion being 'therapeutically' effective at treating this 'illness.' The FDA is statutorily charged with guaranteeing the safety and efficacy of drugs and therefore should withdraw this drug that is proven to be dangerous to women and by definition fatally unsafe for unborn children."

Axios: "The Heritage Foundation, which has proposed detailed policies for a potential GOP administration, argues that Comstock 'unambiguously prohibits mailing abortion drugs' and says the next administration should 'enforce federal law against providers and distributors of [abortion] pills.'"

Axios: "[Project 2025] is undeniably a Trump-driven operation. The biggest tell: Johnny McEntee - one of Trump's closest White House aides, and his most fervent internal loyalty enforcer - is a senior adviser to Project 2025. One of the most powerful architects is Stephen Miller, a top West Wing adviser for the Trump administration."

Vance: "I've reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there."

New York Times: "Roberts told me that he views Heritage's role today as 'institutionalizing Trumpism.' This includes leading Project 2025, a transition blueprint that outlines a plan to consolidate power in the executive branch, dismantle federal agencies and recruit and vet government employees to free the next Republican president from a system that Roberts views as stacked against conservative power. The lesson of Trump's first year in office, Roberts told me, is that 'the Trump administration … simply got a slow start. And Heritage and our allies in Project 2025 believe that must never be repeated.'"

REMINDER: Trump "proudly" overturned Roe v. Wade and paved the way for extreme abortion bans across the country - something his extreme anti-choice running mate JD Vance has celebrated.

Trump: "I was proudly the person responsible for the ending of … Roe v. Wade."

Trump: "For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it, and I'm proud to have done it. … Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle."

Trump: "After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade…"

Vance: "I think that what I really think on - so first of all, the Dobbs decision, everybody knows, overruled Roe v. Wade - I think that was the right decision."

Rolling Stone: "Trump Claims Credit for All Abortion Bans"

Trump campaign radio ad: "And Trump nominated conservative judges, leading to Roe v. Wade being overturned."

Attacks on access to reproductive health care like the Trump-Vance agenda to rip away medication abortion access aren't just dangerous - they're deeply unpopular.

Axios: "More than 7 in 10 Americans support access to medication abortion, and even more back the Food and Drug Administration's ability to regulate drugs, a new Axios-Ipsos poll finds.

"There's widespread support for letting women obtain drugs for medication abortion from their doctor or a clinic, with 72% supporting - including half of Republicans."

Pew Research: "Broad Public Support for Legal Abortion Persists 2 Years After Dobbs"

"About six-in-ten (63%) say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. This share has grown 4 percentage points since 2021 - the year prior to the 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization that overturned Roe.

"Since before Roe was overturned, both parties have seen a modest uptick in the share who say abortion should be legal.

"Americans say medication abortion should be legal rather than illegal by a margin of more than two-to-one (54% vs. 20%)."

USA Today: "Americans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide. By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents."

Axios: "Record share of U.S. voters back abortion rights and will vote on it: Gallup"

NBC News: "Abortion rights have won in every election since Roe v. Wade was overturned"
