JEFFERSON CITY, Mo - The Central Coalition for Roadway Safety and regional safety partners are working towards zero traffic fatalities by asking mid-Missourians to take simple actions proven to save lives as part of the eighth annual Buckle Up Phone Down Day on Oct. 30, 2024.
"The good news is that 88 percent of Missourians wear their seat belt and more than 55,000 have taken the pledge to buckle up and put their phone down when driving," said Trent Brooks, Central Region Coalition for Roadway Safety Representative. "We want to continue fostering that environment where it's common place to take those two simple, life-saving actions."
To that goal, the Central Coalition for Roadway Safety is giving away 100 prize packages to those who commit to fastening their seat belts and putting their phones down while driving.
Gear showing their commitment to always Buckle Up Phone Down (BUPD) will be sent to the first 100 participants who:
1 - Live in one of the Central Coalition for Roadway Safety's 18 counties: Boone, Callaway, Camden, Cole, Cooper, Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Howard, Laclede, Maries, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski, or Washington.
2 - Complete the form at https://www.modot.org/form/cr_bupd_2024.
3 - Complete at least three of the tasks below:
The Central Coalition for Roadway Safety is a diverse partnership of safety advocates spanning 18 counties dedicated to making roadways throughout the mid-Missouri region safer. The Coalition's goal is to end traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roadways. Missouri's Strategic Highway Safety Plan, Show-Me Zero, outlines the state's plan for achieving success by implementing strategies most effective at mitigating the behaviors and issues most commonly associated with fatal and serious injury crashes in Missouri. Zero fatalities is our goal. Anything else is simply unacceptable.
