NCPA Applauds Harris’ Focus on PBM Reform

NCPA August 16, 2024

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Aug. 16, 2024) - The National Community Pharmacists Association today issued the following statement on behalf of CEO B. Douglas Hoey in response to Vice President Kamala Harris' pledge to crack down on PBMs as part of her agenda to lower drug prices:

"We are very pleased that Vice President Harris is focused on the predatory, anticompetitive companies that are driving up the cost of prescription drugs, driving small, independent pharmacies out of business, and restricting health care access for millions of patients. The Biden-Harris administration has done more than any other to crack down on the PBMs, and we strongly support that effort. It is very encouraging that the vice president intends to carry on that work as president.

"On behalf of the 19,000 independent pharmacies across the country, which serve tens of millions of patients, we call on former President Donald Trump to join Vice President Harris in pledging to reform the PBMs. This is an overwhelmingly bipartisan issue in Congress, and it would be good for the country to see that the two major candidates for president can share this priority despite their other disagreements."
