Road Closure on Tillotson Avenue

MUNCIE, IN, August 16, 2024 - Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) crews continue work on an underground power line rebuild project in Muncie.

Starting Monday, August 19, Tillotson Avenue will be closed between W University Avenue and W Riverside Avenue. The closure will allow crews to safely install underground equipment.

"The road closure is for one reason -- safety" said Rob Keisling, I&M External Affairs manager for East-Central and Northeast Indiana. "There have already been two vehicle accidents in our work zones for this project, so we worked with the City of Muncie and determined this was the best way to protect our crews and the public."

Weather permitting, the closure will last for approximately four weeks. Crews will work longer hours and extra days to minimize the impact and reopen the road as soon as possible. I&M will provide updates in advance of changes in traffic control plans.

I&M appreciates the patience of our Muncie customers as we work to enhance reliability with the Tillotson Avenue Transmission Line Project. Work includes upgrading 4-miles of above and below-ground power lines in northwest Muncie, to address numerous power outages in recent years, and replacing aging power poles and wires to reduce the likelihood of future outages.
