RELEASE: SOUTH BAY REPS ANNOUNCE $18.1 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR THE SAN JOSÉ MINETA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

San Jose, CA - Today, Representatives Ro Khanna (CA-17), Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) announced $18,153,923 through two federal grants for the San José Mineta International Airport. The representatives were joined by San José Mayor Matt Mahan, SJC Director of Aviation Mukesh "Mookie" Patel, and the City of San José Assistant Manager Lee Wilcox, in celebrating this funding.

"The San José Mineta International Airport not only serves four million people in the South Bay, but also connects our thriving local economy with the rest of the state and the country. This $18.1 million investment will go toward the construction of a new taxiway and a new terminal to support a greater number of passengers traveling through San José. The grants are part of the Biden-Harris administration's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which we proudly voted for in Congress and pushed for funding in the legislation that would directly benefit our communities," said Reps. Khanna, Lofgren, Eshoo, and Panetta.

"I want to extend my thanks to Representatives Khanna, Lofgren, Eshoo and Panetta and the Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Commission for securing $18 million in grant funding that will go towards necessary infrastructure improvements at SJC. These upgrades to our runways will maintain our airport's status as the most reliable, convenient airport in the country," said San José Mayor Matt Mahan.

"For over 75 years, San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) has been connecting San José and Silicon Valley with the world. We are delighted that the DOT has recognized the importance of SJC as an economic driver for Silicon Valley and one of the best midsize airports in the US. With the funds from this grant, SJC will be able to make the infrastructure upgrades necessary to remain the Bay Area's easiest and most dependable airport," said Mukesh (Mookie) Patel, Director of Aviation at San José Mineta International Airport.

The funding is part of $427 million for airport-related infrastructure grants across 39 states to modernize and improve America's airports through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG). The projects include improvements to runways, baggage systems, and air traffic infrastructure.
