Public Information Review and Comment Meeting Scheduled by the City of Belleville

The City of Belleville will conduct a Public Information Review and Comment Meeting regarding the proposed improvements to West Main Street from 28^th Street to 49^th Street. This review and comment meeting will be an open house held in the Welcome Center, addition of the Auditorium (2300 west Main Street Belleville, IL 62226) on August 13, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. All persons interested in the project are invited to view the information and provide public comment. Representatives from the City and Oates Associates Engineering will respond to any questions that are submitted.

Information that is being provided will include topics such as the design being considered, right-of-way needs, and the proposed bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Preliminary drawings, renderings and aerial photography will be available for viewing.

Background

The City received federal funds for the West Main Street Improvements through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STP-S). STP-S is a federally funded program administered by East-West Gateway Council of Governments for surface transportation improvements designed to support roadway improvements. STP-S funds are solicited and awarded on a competitive basis. Because federal funds are being used, a public review and comment period is necessary for compliance with National Environmental Policy ACT (NEPA) requirements and the Illinois Department of Transportation's public involvement policy.
