Tarleton Volleyball drops final match of Tommie Invitational

Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. - Tarleton State Volleyball dropped the final match of the Tommie Invitational to Valparaiso on Saturday morning in straight sets, 3-0, at the Schoenecker Arena.
The Texans (0-6) concluded their second tournament of the season, falling 14-25, 22-25, 22-25 to the Beacons who improve to 4-2 on the new season.
Libero posted a team-best 12 digs. Freshman registered 10 kills, her third double-digit tally in her young collegiate career. and split duties at setter. Hodges totaled 21 assists and Ansquer tallied 14.
The Beacons took control of the first set from the beginning. After opening the frame, 4-0, Valpo used a 10-4 run to take an 18-9 advantage. The Texans were unable to combat the run, dropping the first stanza, 25-14.
The Texans responded in the second frame using a 5-0 run to take a 5-1 lead early on. Busch propelled the run notching a kill and an ace. Busch notched a pair of kills in the middle of a 4-1 run to keep the Texans ahead, 11-7. Tarleton held the lead for most of the set. But, Valpo stayed within four points until they popped off a 5-0 run to take a 24-21 advantage. The Purple and White were unable to recover dropping the second set, 25-22.
Valparaiso closed the third set to earn their second sweep of the season. The Beacons led for the entirety of the frame. Valpo used an 8-4 start to gain control of the set. Valpo led by four for the majority until the final points of the stanza. The Texans used a 3-1 run to cut the deficit to two, 22-20. The Beacons closed the set with a 3-2 advantage to clinch the three-set victory.

Valparaiso posted 49 kills, hitting at a .349 clip. Tarleton notched 40 kills while hitting .209. The Beacons led in service aces, 5-2. Valpo also had the advantage in digs, 45-41.
Tarleton will play in its final road tournament of the regular season next weekend at the Northern Arizona Invitational. The Texans will take on New Mexico on Friday night afternoon at 3 p.m. in Flagstaff, Arizona. Tarleton will then conclude the weekend with a 1 p.m. match against the host Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona.
