Lee University's Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Alan Wyatt, will present its fall concert on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center on Lee's campus.
Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of music, including "Pensativa" by Claire Fischer, "Stardust Crusaders" by Yugo Kanno, and a German traditional piece called "Du, Du Liegst Mir Im Herzen."
All but two arrangements were created or adapted for this unique instrumentation by Wyatt. "The other two arrangements were created by our gifted students Jared Anderson and Garrett Miller," said Wyatt.
Thursday's performance will also feature other members of Lee's music faculty, including Dr. Barkey Bryant, professor of trumpet; Margherita Fava, piano instructor; and Shawn Perkinson, instructor of commercial guitar.
Lee's Jazz Ensemble performs classic and recent literature for the traditional Big Band. The ensemble includes rhythm section instruments, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones. A frequent award winner at national festivals, the group performs for campus, school, and civic events.
Wyatt has been teaching and mentoring students at Lee since 1990. He teaches courses such as applied saxophone, commercial music theory and history, and jazz improvisation. Wyatt has served as a performer for area jazz festivals and as a clinician, most recently for the Tennessee Music Educators Association as the clinician for the All-State Jazz Band.
The concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will be available at leeu.live/.
