At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a report from the Ministry of Education (MOE) on the status of planning for a new ministry of sports. The premier said the Executive Yuan is undertaking rigorous preparations for the establishment of this new central government ministry dedicated to sports and athletics. The ministry will aim to ensure equal opportunities, social inclusion and sustainable development in sports, as well as strengthen Taiwan's influence and participation in international sports.

Premier Cho said the ministry's organizational structure will include the ministry itself, one subordinate agency and three subordinate centers. The ministry's overall mission is to promote sports-related affairs nationwide, while the subordinate agency will develop sports initiatives for the general public. Two of the centers will be the existing National Sports Training Center and Taiwan Institute of Sports Science, which will carry out training of athletic talent and conduct research into sports science and related applications. This will be done in cooperation with a third center, which will focus on promoting the growth and development of the national sports industry.

Premier Cho instructed the MOE to continue advancing arguments for organic law amendments and proposals related to the new ministry's creation, and to properly communicate with all legislative caucuses as well as wider society, with a view to inaugurating the ministry of sports in the latter half of next year.
