Annual Report

UMT United Mobility Technology AG ("UMT AG", Securities identification number WKN: A2YN70, ISIN: DE000A2YN702) published its Annual Report 2023 today.

In the past financial year, UMT AG's total performance increased by TEUR 527 to TEUR 558 (previous year: TEUR 31). This was due to the increase in sales revenues of TEUR 216 (previous year: TEUR 20) and other operating income (TEUR 342, previous year: TEUR 11). As a result, gross profit also increased by TEUR 529 to TEUR 553 in the reporting year (previous year: TEUR 24).

While earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) improved significantly in the reporting year to TEUR -150 (previous year: TEUR -1,337), earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) fell to TEUR -31,539 (previous year: TEUR -10,450) as a result of depreciation and amortisation totalling TEUR 31,389.

As a result, earnings before taxes (EBT) deteriorated to TEUR -31,474 (previous year: TEUR -10,373). UMT AG closed financial year 2023 with a net loss for the year of TEUR -31,492 (previous year: TEUR -10,379).

As previously announced, an impairment loss was recognised for both Buchberger companies in UMT AG's 2023 annual financial statements. The two investments in the Buchberger companies were written down to a residual carrying amount of TEUR 100.

In addition, the carrying amount of the investment in UMS United Mobile Services GmbH ("UMS GmbH") was written down to TEUR 2,886 and a further write-down requirement of TEUR 10,589 was recognised for the loan granted to UMS GmbH.

In light of the ongoing legal dispute regarding the Buchberger investment, it was not necessary to prepare voluntary consolidated financial statements as of 31 December 2023. The company can therefore only publish the separate financial statements of UMT AG in the 2023 Annual Report.

New Business

UMT AG has begun to consistently acquire new business and will focus on growth in the technology sector in the future. On the one hand, the focus is on AI solutions for document processing. Although the digitalisation of internal processes has increased significantly in recent years, companies and public authorities still have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to digitally processing the thousands of documents of all kinds that have to be processed daily in a wide variety of sources and channels.

The AI-based product Xpact as well as UMT AG's own software and consulting services can be flexibly and individually customised here. Users benefit from a considerable reduction in workload, the elimination of work steps and cost savings. Important industries here include the logistics sector, production companies and insurance companies.

UMT AG also offers solutions based on blockchain. This technology has continued to develop, somewhat in the shadow of cryptocurrencies, and offers considerable advantages in the areas of transparency, tracking and originator control, particularly in combination with AI, including in supply chains, where it is used to verify the identity of people and means of production in order to provide unalterable proof of who delivered what to whom and when. The aim here is to provide customers with expert advice and solutions that work in the long term.

The fact that the EU recently raised the minimum number of employees for companies that have to create the "EU Product Passport" in the first phase from 500 to 1000 merely means a delay. In terms of content, the immense requirements for companies will change little. And this is where UMT AG comes in.

A blockchain solution is the first choice, for example, when it comes to ensuring the traceability of supplier products and ingredients in a production process across many countries and supply partners, proving environmental compatibility or enabling compliance with EU product passport requirements. UMT AG works with leading providers on the basis of the T4 (Traceability, Trackability, Transparency & Trust) model and offers customised solutions.

The company's own payment hub, which was developed as part of Payback Pay, can be offered and implemented as a support whenever customers need to enable billing with external partners within products or processes. It is also offered in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University for innovative payment solutions in industry, for example.

UMT AG has a strong sales team on board to offer these solutions throughout Europe, focussing initially on the DACH region and the UK and later on the whole of Europe. The addressable market for both segments in Europe alone will be in the double-digit billion range over the next few years.

In addition to the operational expansion of this business, UMT AG is also examining investments in profitable companies that offer a strategic fit and present opportunities for Europe-wide growth. The company is already holding promising initial talks in this regard.

To summarise, UMT AG's main focus in the coming months will be on:

  • Expansion of sales, solution portfolio and consulting services directly and via partners
  • Focus on innovation, solutions, consulting and strong partnerships
  • Strategic expansion of the investment portfolio
  • Internationalisation and long-term customer acquisition throughout Europe
  • Advising companies and selling scalable solutions in the area of blockchain, supply chain optimisation and payment

"We are delighted to be building up our operating business in two of the most exciting market segments at the moment. The response from the customers we are talking to clearly shows that there is a great need. Many companies are actually digitally well positioned internally, but almost everything that comes from outside has to be digitised first - and here we have exactly what they need. I look forward to working with my team to help UMT achieve success once again and to give the share price a boost," says Erik Nagel, CEO of UMT AG.
