FACT CHECK: JD Vance Has Spent His Career Putting Silicon Valley Billionaires And Trump’s Extreme MAGA Agenda Ahead of Working People Arrow

As JD Vance prepares to address the RNC for the first time since joining Donald Trump's losing MAGA ticket, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:

"JD Vance pretends to be a populist but is just another MAGA Republican in the pocket of special interests. At every opportunity, Vance leaves hard-working Americans behind, siding with his Silicon Valley benefactors, Project 2025 cronies, and Trump's billionaire Mar-a-Lago buddies. Vance doesn't care if the Trump-Vance tax scam leads to an 'inflation bomb' that will skyrocket costs for working families. When the chips were down, Vance turned his back on unions, opposing legislation to raise wages, benefits, and working conditions for members. And when bipartisan funding was on the table to secure our border and increase fentanyl screenings to tackle the opioid epidemic, Vance followed Trump's order to 'kill' the deal.

"Vance's agenda sells out working people in exchange for campaign donations and a spot on the most extreme presidential ticket in modern American history. Nothing he says tonight can change that."

FACT: Vance backs Trump's Project 2025 agenda that includes giving handouts to the ultra-wealthy (again) at the expense of working Americans and risks supercharging inflation.

Vance: "I've reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there."

Vance on Trump's plan that would raise tariffs to kill the income tax for wealthiest Americans and raise costs for hardworking families: "This is a fascinating proposal and we could talk for a while about it."

Trump: "You're all people that have a lot of money … You're rich as hell. … We're gonna give you tax cuts."

CBS News: "Two years after Trump tax cuts, middle-class Americans are falling behind"

The Guardian: "Donald Trump's $1.5tn tax cuts have helped billionaires pay a lower rate than the working class for the first time in history."

Axios: "Sixteen Nobel prize-winning economists are jumping into the presidential campaign with a stark warning: Former President Trump's plans would reignite inflation and cause lasting harm to the global economy if he wins in November."

Project 2025: "The corporate income tax rate should be reduced to 18 percent."

FACT: Vance opposes legislation that protects unions, standing firmly against working people.

Politico: "Vance has consistently opposed the PRO Act, the 'holy grail of pro-union labor reform' that organized labor and its allies on the Hill have been fighting for over two years to get passed."

FACT: At Trump's command, Vance helped tank popular bipartisan legislation to improve our immigration system and fund fentanyl screenings at the border.

JD Vance: "[The bipartisan border security bill] does nothing to secure the border."

Trump: "I think [Republicans] are making a terrible mistake if they vote for the bill."

CNN: "Trump, who is hoping to make immigration a key plank of his presidential campaign, has suggested on Truth Social that approving additional resources for the border would make Republicans 'look bad.'"

Navigator Research: "Two in Three Americans Support the Bipartisan Immigration Deal"

"Two in three Americans supported the bipartisan immigration deal reached in the Senate, but that will not be taken up for a vote in the House. … On the Republican approach to the recent immigration package, Americans' greatest concerns are that they are focused on the wrong issues and playing politics."

FACT: Vance has railed against Social Security and Medicare and criticized the Affordable Care Act, which Trump is pushing to "terminate."

Vance: "[Social Security and Medicare] are the biggest roadblocks to any kind of real fiscal sanity."

Vance: "The way forward is as obvious as it is politically difficult: … reform current entitlements and avoid enacting new ones."

Vance: "We've got to, frankly, stop spending so much on welfare benefits and start having a lot more workers who are paying into the system."

Vance, in a New York Times Op-Ed: "It is true, as Republicans argue, that health care costs too much. And it is also true that Obamacare has failed to take care of this problem."

FACT: Vance - who compared abortion to slavery - supports a national abortion ban, criticizes exceptions for rape and incest, and blocked protections for reproductive health care access.

Newsweek: "J.D. Vance Backs 'National Standard' for Abortions."

Politico: "But Vance's past remarks on abortion and women - and his subsequent attempts to modify them - are providing Democrats running against Trump with rocket fuel for their strategy on abortion rights. Vance indicated in a 2021 interview that he did not support abortions even in cases of rape or incest …He has also equated the procedure to 'murder.'"

Daily Beast: "J.D. Vance suggested he would support prohibiting abortion even in cases of rape and incest-and dismissed those catalysts as 'inconvenient.'"

The Hill: "'Two wrongs don't make a right,' he said in 2021 when asked whether abortion laws should allow for exceptions for rape and incest."

The Hill: "Senate Republicans block legislation to codify IVF access"

"Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked legislation led by Democrats to revive the protections of Roe v. Wade in the wake of the Supreme Court eliminating the nationwide right to abortion."

REMINDER: Vance said himself that when it comes to ripping away reproductive freedoms, he is in lockstep with Trump.

Sean Hannity, Fox News: "So you completely agree, are in full, complete agreement with President Trump?"

JD Vance: "My view is that Donald Trump is the leader of the Republican Party and his views on abortion are going to be the views that dominate this party and drive this party forward."
