City Recognized for Financial Transparency

The City of Rowlett was the fifth local government entity in the state to receive all six transparency stars through the State Comptroller's transparency program.

In 2016, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts began a new initiative to encourage all county and local governments as well as school districts to provide greater transparency in their financial operations called the Transparency Stars program. Local governments were encouraged to provide clear and meaningful financial information in the areas of traditional finance, debt obligations, public pensions, contracts and procurement, and economic development. The City of Rowlett embraced this philosophy and began working to provide its citizens with improved online financial information based on the program's requirements.

The City earned the original five transparency stars in 2017: Traditional Finances, Debt Obligations, Public Pensions, Economic Development, and Contracts & Procurement.

In 2024, the State Comptroller added a new area to their Transparency Stars program for open government and compliance. The City earned its sixth star for Open Government & Compliance in August 2024.

All awarded stars have been maintained since their original award dates.
