More than 72 million Americans receive Social Security benefits, bringing dignity and peace of mind to older Americans across the country
Eighty-nine years ago, Social Security was created to provide financial security for millions of older Americans across the country. House Republicans are trying to cut it.
House Republicans have endorsed $1.5 trillion in cuts to Social Security, including raising the retirement age and cutting disability benefits. House Republicans on the Appropriations Committee have also voted to cut nearly half a billion dollars from the Social Security Administration, which would close field offices, extend wait times, and delay disability claims nationwide.
Thirteen vulnerable House Republicans have endorsed the GOP's cuts to Social Security as members of the Republican Study Committee:

Additionally, House Republicans and their candidates in competitive districts have explicitly called for cuts to Social Security, including:
Kevin Coughlin (OH-13): Coughlin wants to gamble with people's Social Security benefits by privatizing the program.
Joe Kent (WA-03): Kent has called for raising the retirement age and privatizing Social Security.
80% of voters oppose plans to cut Social Security benefits by raising the retirement age, and 81% oppose any cuts to retirement programs.
DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
"House Republicans and their extreme candidates across the country aren't afraid of saying the quiet part out loud: they want to cut Social Security and deny seniors their hard-earned benefits. Only House Democrats are fighting to protect Social Security."
