UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2023 Fatal Shooting at 9898 Forum Park Drive

July 1, 2024- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9898 Forum Park Drive about 8:55 a.m. on February 18, 2023.

The suspect, Juan Manuel Estrada, 40, is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. A booking photo of Estrada is attached to this news release.

He is accused for his role in the death of Michel Cangas Rojas, 40.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Cass and Detective J. Campbell reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a deceased person call in an apartment complex parking lot at the above address and found an unresponsive male with multiple gunshot wounds sitting in the driver's seat of his car. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male, later identified as Mr. Rojas, deceased at the scene.

At that time, there were no known witnesses or suspects.

On Saturday (June 29), Estrada walked in to the HPD Edward A. Thomas Building at 1200 Travis Street and requested to speak with a homicide detective regarding this case. Estrada told detectives he and Rojas were neighbors at the time of the incident. He then confessed to his role in Rojas' shooting.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and Estrada was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.
