Foreign Ministry extends its policy of outreach and comprehensive care for women to Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Mexico extends its policy of outreach and comprehensive care for women (VAIM), currently in operation in North America and Europe, to include the 28 diplomatic representations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Mexico strengthens the ability of its diplomatic and consular network to assist Mexican women and girls as part of its feminist foreign policy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has extended its policy of outreach and comprehensive care for women (VAIM) to include the 28 diplomatic representations in Latin America and the Caribbean, as part of the commitment of the Mexican government and the priority it gives to defending the rights of Mexicans abroad, especially women and girls in situations of risk or violence.

The VAIM policy provides comprehensive consular assistance with the aim of protecting the rights of migrant women and providing the necessary tools for their empowerment. By undertaking these comprehensive actions, the VAIM policy recognizes girls and women as subjects of rights and agents of change in society.

This crosscutting outreach policy integrates all of the services offered by our consular representations from a gender perspective. It also pays special attention to sensitizing and training consular staff to identify warning signs that indicate the existence of risk factors or situations of vulnerability. The VAIM policy provides a coordinated consular response and programs that offer various services, with special emphasis on assistance for victims of violence.

By extending the VAIM policy to this region, networks that focus on the empowerment of Mexican girls and women will be strengthened, especially in cases of violence. The VAIM will be essential in helping the women in Latin America and the Caribbean connect with authorities, resources and organizations.

The Mexican community can access the VAIM on the web pages of the Mexico's representations in the region.

The Foreign Ministry continues to strengthen its actions in Latin America and the Caribbean to provide consular assistance and protection in a timely, dignified and humane manner.
