3 Well-Loved Local Grocery Stores Join Seattle’s Fresh Bucks Program

This fall, three beloved locally-owned grocery stores have joined the City of Seattle's Fresh Bucks network!

Fresh Bucks is the Office of Sustainability and Environment's (OSE) healthy food program that helps Seattle residents afford the fruits and vegetables they need to thrive. The program has taken off since it first started in 2012, with more than 40 retailers including Seattle farmers' markets, independent grocers, and supermarkets located across Seattle, prioritizing our most overburdened neighborhoods. Participating businesses help Fresh Bucks make fresh produce accessible to all community members in every corner of our city.

How Fresh Bucks Works: Enrolled participants receive $40 in their Fresh Bucks account each month. Customers can spend their benefits on fruits and vegetables using their Fresh Bucks Card or mobile app at any listed retail partner locations. Learn more at SeattleFreshBucks.org.

Cascadia Fresh Market (North Delridge)

Cascadia Produce, a wholesaler, recently opened the Cascadia Fresh Market as their first retail store in the North Delridge Neighborhood of West Seattle (Fresh Bucks customers will know this location as it previously housed retail partner, Delridge Grocery Co-op).

Cascadia Fresh Market focuses on low-cost, fresh food access. They stock a rotating affordable variety that includes berries, avocados, mangoes, leafy greens, microgreens, asparagus, beets, tomatoes, and so much more fresh food. They also carry canned and frozen produce options.

The market supports community and local elementary schools by partnering with a different school each day of the week as part of their ongoing fundraiser. By shopping at the market, you are sending 20% of your purchase to the PTA of that designated school to fund programs important to local families.

Owners Jillian Moore and Jeremy Vrablik told us they "have unique access to exciting foods, like purple cauliflower or sour kumquat or plantains, which spark joy and connection within people as well as nourishing their bodies. We love good food, and we love to see people able to choose what they want without the barrier of price. All people deserve good food."

HC Grocery (South Beacon Hill)

HC Grocery focuses on low-cost, Asian-centric foods and they have a variety of culturally relevant produce.

Customers can get a variety of unique fresh produce such as bok choy, taro root, daikon radish, longan, dragon fruit, and other specialty fruits and vegetables. Customers also have the option to pick up canned produce like lychee and corn in addition to dried products like red beans, mung beans, soybeans, and mushrooms.

Owners Anna Chen and her husband are excited to join the Fresh Bucks retail network and help support their regular customers, especially the seniors and multi-generational households in the South Beacon Hill neighborhood. Golden Hong Market (Chinatown-International District)

Golden Hong Market focuses on stocking a variety of low-cost Asian foods and fresh produce.

Customers can get a variety of unique fresh produce such as A-Choy, bok choy, lychee, persimmons, and lychee. Customers also have the option to grab canned produce like chestnuts and bamboo shoots in addition to dried products like dates, mung beans, and red beans.

Owners Ryan Huang and Ivy Yan are excited to join Fresh Bucks network as the first grocer to enroll in the program in the Chinatown-International District. Shop at Golden Hong Market with your Fresh Bucks at 516 7th Ave S in Seattle, seven days a week.
