TechNet Submits Comments to CISA on the Implementation of the Cyber Incident Report for Critical Infrastructure Act of 2022

Washington, D.C. - TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, submitted comments to the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) regarding implementation of the Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act of 2022 (CIRCIA). The following statement can be attributed to TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore:

"As the value of data escalates, so does the frequency and severity of cyberattacks. Between 2021 and 2023, cyberattacks surged by 72 percent, with each data breach costing an average of $4.45 million. These attacks jeopardize the integrity of our financial markets, national security, and utility services. They pose significant threats to businesses, particularly small enterprises, and infringe on our civil liberties by compromising personal data and identities.

"While artificial intelligence is making strides in defending public and private sectors from cyber threats, ongoing collaboration between the technology industry and government is crucial. To effectively defend our critical infrastructure, safeguard data, and mitigate risks, CISA must clearly define the scope of 'covered entities' required to report significant cyber incidents, appropriately balance the timing requirements for reporting these incidents, and precisely define what constitutes a 'covered cyber incident' under CIRCIA.
