FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Placer County - Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project continuing along State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.

The broadband project is a part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Utility work is scheduled along the shoulders of both directions of SR-28 at the following locations and times:

  • Tuesday, September 3 from 8 p.m. until Thursday, September 5 at 8 p.m. between Sierra Terrace Road and Star Harbor
  • Wednesday, September 4 from 8 p.m. until Thursday, September 5 at 8 a.m. between Onyx Street and Agate Road
  • Thursday, September 5 from 8 p.m. until Friday, September 6 at noon between Rocky Ridge Road and Lake Forest Road East
  • Thursday, September 5 from 8 p.m. until Friday, September 6 at noon between Agate Road and Estates Drive

Southwest Gas and its contractor, Q&D Construction, have wrapped up construction work for this season on a gas-line replacement project on SR-28 between Tahoe City and Kings Beach. Work will resume next spring.

Motorists could encounter total delays of up to one hour between Tahoe City and Kings Beach on SR-28 due to the various construction activities. Please allow for extra time to reach your destination, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times. All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment or material availability, or other unexpected events.

Caltrans issues construction and road condition updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic information, click on Caltrans' QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
