The Boston Parks Movie Nights series returns this year, with the live-action version of The Little Mermaid (2023) screening tonight at Allston's Ringer Park Playground.

This series, part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department's ParkARTS program, lets residents enjoy kid-friendly movies in various parks across the city. Running from August 6 to 29, all screenings are free and open to the public.

Disney's The Little Mermaid follows the adventurous Ariel, the youngest and most rebellious of King Triton's daughters. Eager to explore life beyond the ocean, the melodious mermaid princess falls for the charming Prince Eric. Despite the ban on mermaid-human interactions, Ariel strikes a risky deal with the sea witch Ursula to experience life on land, putting both her and her father in danger.

Sponsored by Bank of America, with support from the Mayor's Office of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment, the series also promises free popcorn and on-screen closed-captioning where available. The summer's upcoming movies include recent hits like Wonka (2023) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), along with the classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986).
