In recognition of invisible disabilities, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted signed the following proclamation:
WHEREAS, about 20% of people, or 66 million Americans, live with a condition that could be considered an invisible or hidden disability; and
WHEREAS, the term invisible disabilities is used to describe disabilities that are not readily apparent based on appearance; and
WHEREAS, without the obvious signs of disability, people with invisible disabilities can be accused of faking or exaggerating their conditions; and
WHEREAS, because these disabilities are not readily apparent, the person's condition may not be acknowledged by others; and
WHEREAS, a lack of acknowledgment of the disability often translates to a lack of funding, accommodations, medical resources, medical diagnosis and overall support;
NOW, THEREFORE, We, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted, Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Ohio, do hereby recognize October 20-26, 2024
INVISIBLE DISABILITIES WEEK
on this 20th day of October 2024.
