FedEx Lifts Local Communities Through Hands-on Sustainability Projects

Hong Kong SAR, July 25, 2024 - Federal Express Corporation, one of the world's largest express transportation companies, is expanding its community-level sustainability efforts in Hong Kong. As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, FedEx has initiated a range of environment-based community activities, including recycling programs, clean-ups, tree planting initiatives, and the promotion of a sustainable lifestyle.

These sustainability initiatives include:

  • In collaboration with the global nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation, which is dedicated to planting trees, the FedEx Hong Kong team participated in a tree-planting initiative in WEEE park, which is a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) treatment and recycling facility located in EcoPark in Tuen Mun. Along with other participants, 10 FedEx Hong Kong team members and their families planted 270 saplings. Given that EcoPark's operations generate significant heat and emissions, the newly planted trees will serve to cool neighboring buildings, purify the air, and create an oasis of calm for workers and visitors.
  • A total of 15 FedEx Hong Kong team members participated in a beach cleanup along Lung Kwu Sheung Tan, organized by Green Power, a local nonprofit promoting environmental education. FedEx volunteers and other participants collected a total of 408kg of trash, contributing to the preservation of the coastal environment.
  • In collaboration with Green Power, FedEx launched the Green Impact Challenge internally among its Hong Kong and Macau team members. The challenge encouraged participants to reduce carbon emissions in their daily lives through simple, low-carbon actions such as recycling, adopting meat-free alternatives, and walking more.
  • FedEx Hong Kong has collaborated with a local social enterprise to upcycle old uniforms into brand new FedEx products.

"To commemorate our 40th anniversary in Hong Kong, we reaffirm our commitment to corporate social responsibilities and sustainability through a series of community-based activities," said Anthony Leung, managing director, FedEx Hong Kong and Macau. "Thanks to our team members' practical approaches, we've made positive impacts on our local communities. Moving forward, we will continue to seek opportunities to address the environmental challenges and foster an environmentally conscious culture among our employees and throughout the community."

Each year, FedEx publishes its achievements and advancements in its environmental, social and governance (ESG) report. The FedEx 2024 ESG Report is now available and can be accessed here.
