L3Harris Secures Avionics Contract with Air India for Next-Generation Voice and Data Recorders

L3Harris Technologies announce a landmark agreement with Air India to become lead supplier of the state-of-the-art SRVIVR25™ Voice and Data Recorders for the airline's B737-8 fleet. One hundred aircraft will be equipped with L3Harris' cutting-edge technology - with the possibility of an additional forty planes, cementing a robust future collaboration.

The deal, finalized in April 2024, is the first avionics partnership between L3Harris and Air India since the latter came under the ownership of the Tata Group and expands the relationship between the two companies, with L3Harris also providing pilot training to Air India's current and future pilots.

The comprehensive SRVIVR25™ line features various models tailored to airline needs: from stand-alone Cockpit Voice Recorders (CVR) and Flight Data Recorders (FDR), to combined units and even deployable solutions. Notably, these devices present an eco-friendly option with their Underwater Locator Beacon (ULB), support automated distress tracking and facilitate the timely recovery of flight data.

Between 2025 to 2028, L3Harris will deliver recorders for the initial slot of one hundred aircraft. The contingent forty are slated for post-2028 fulfilment.

Jan Davis, General Manager for Avionics Programs at L3Harris said: "Our partnership with Air India underscores our mutual dedication to advancing aviation safety and performance. As we move forward with the deployment of our recorders across Air India's 737-8 fleet, we look forward to enhancing operational efficiencies for the airline while strengthening our collaborative relationship."

Alan Crawford, President of L3Harris Commercial Aviation Solutions added: "We are committed to developing and nurturing long-term partnerships with top-tier customers across the globe. This agreement, alongside Air India's pilot training program, is a great example of how L3Harris provides a range of aviation products and services that offer multiple solutions to airline customers."

Sisirakanta Dash, Chief Technical Offcer, Air India said: "Equipping our B737-8 fleet with these state-of-the-art voice and data recorders is a major step forward in our commitment to safety and operational excellence. The extended recording capabilities and the advanced technology that powers these recorders align with our vision for a sustainable and secure future of flight. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with L3Harris as we take Air India to new heights."

For nearly six decades, L3Harris has been at the forefront of recorder technology and the SRVIVR25™ series continues this legacy. Offering unprecedented recording duration for both voice and flight data it enhances aviation safety and satisfies regulatory mandates.
