Penn State Altoona alumnus, employees to be recognized by historical society

Three people in the Penn State Altoona community will receive awards at the annual Blair County Historical Society Heritage Hall of Fame dinner on Sept. 26 at the Casino at Lakemont.

ALTOONA, Pa. - Three people in the Penn State Altoona community will receive awards at the annual Blair County Historical Society Heritage Hall of Fame dinner on Sept. 26 at the Casino at Lakemont.

Jared Frederick, Mark Frederick and Harriett Gaston will be recognized for their significant contributions to preserving Blair County's heritage.

Jared Frederick, assistant teaching professor of history, will receive a Preservation of Blair County History award for his guided historical walking tours of Blair County.

Mark Frederick, a 2017 graduate of Penn State Altoona, will also receive a Preservation of Blair County History award for his film "Blair County: A People's History."

Harriett Gaston, an adviser for the Division of Undergraduate Studies, will receive a Director's Award for her research and work on the new African American Heritage exhibit at Baker Mansion and for organizing Blair County's first Juneteenth celebration.
