Minister Mauro Vieira visits Malaysia – August 25, 2024

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, will make an official visit to Malaysia on August 25th. In Putrajaya, the country's administrative capital, he will hold a working meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan, and will be hosted in an audience by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers will discuss bilateral relations and issues of common interest, including trade and investment, cooperation in forums such as ASEAN and G20, cooperation on climate change, COP-30, to be held in Brazil in 2025, and the reform of global governance.

This year, Brazil and Malaysia celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations. The first Political Consultation Meeting between the two countries is scheduled for September. In 2025, Malaysia will hold the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a bloc of ten countries in the region with which Brazil has a Sectoral Dialogue Partnership.

In 2023, bilateral trade totaled $5.53 billion, with a Brazilian surplus of $2.59 billion. Brazil's favorable trade balance with Malaysia was the country's 8th largest in the world. Malaysia has significant investments in Brazil, in particular in the energy sector.
